Accessibility statement
Last updated
This site should work for everyone, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, a magnifier, or a browser with animation turned off. This page says what has actually been done, the standard it meets, what is known to fall short, and how to tell me when something is broken.
The standard
Israeli Standard IS 5568, which adopts WCAG 2.0 level AA, is the legal requirement here, under regulation 35 of the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 5773-2013. The site is built to WCAG 2.1 level AA, which includes it.
What has been built in
- Real semantic HTML. Headings run in order, landmarks are marked, and lists are lists.
- A skip link to the main content as the first focusable element on every page.
- Visible focus on everything focusable, at 3:1 or better against its own background. The focus color flips on dark sections so it never disappears into the ink.
- Body and interface text at 4.5:1 or better. The citron accent is never used as small text on paper, because it cannot reach that ratio, so it appears as a fill with dark text on it.
-
Every animation stops under
prefers-reduced-motion, including the headline reveal, smooth scrolling and the cookie banner. - Form fields have real labels, errors are tied to their field and announced, and the form works with JavaScript switched off.
- The cookie notice and its settings dialog are reachable and operable by keyboard, have real labels, and do not trap focus or block the page.
- Images carry alt text. Where an image contains a quotation, the alt carries the full quotation rather than a description of the picture.
- Video and audio are never loaded until you ask for them, the play controls have accessible names, and each carries a one-line note of what loading it sends where.
- Every podcast episode has a full text transcript on its own page, linked from the podcast page, with the speaker named each time the speaker changes.
- Text reflows to 320px and can be zoomed to 200% without losing content.
What has been tested
Keyboard-only navigation of every page. An automated audit with axe-core across every page in both languages, at phone and desktop widths, including the cookie banner and its dialog, last run . Contrast computed for every color pair that ships rather than eyeballed, heading order and landmark checks, and rendering at 360, 390, 768, 1366 and 1920 pixels wide.
Where it falls short
Stating this plainly is more useful than claiming full conformance.
- The site has not been tested end to end with JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver by a person who uses one daily. Automated checks and keyboard testing are not the same thing.
- Embedded players from Spotify and YouTube are third-party code and load only when you click. Their accessibility is theirs, not mine, and I cannot fix what is inside the frame. The button that loads each one is accessible.
- The podcast transcripts are based on YouTube's automatic captions, cleaned up and with names corrected. They were not typed by a transcriber, so a word or a name can still be wrong, and a passage that could not be recovered is marked [unclear]. They are in English, the language of the conversations.
- The site is published in English and Hebrew, and the language toggle in the header switches between them. Some longer pieces are still English only.
The service itself
The advisory work is delivered remotely, over video calls, email and WhatsApp, so there are no premises to make accessible. If any channel does not work for you, tell me and I will find one that does.
Tell me when something is broken
If any part of this site stops you from doing what you came to do, email etgar.shpivak@gmail.com or call 054-6628825, with the page address and what happened. I read these myself and I answer them. If something can be fixed quickly I will fix it quickly, and if it cannot I will tell you the timeline and offer another way to get what you needed.
